What is 666? Is it the Same As The Number of his Name?

It is a hotly contested ended topic that many people throughout the ages have discussed. And it is the topic of the mark of the beast, and the meaning of the number of the beast, which is 666. Many theologians and biblical scholars have covered the meaning of the mark of the beast. You may be familiar with Dr. David Jeremiah's coverage of biblical prophecy and the mark of the beast's significance and you may also have considered that the Old Testament and the New Testament bear reference to this climactic point in the end times, when God will cause a shift where He, in fact, takes over! But before God takes over, as we know from the New Testament, the beast, The Beast system and the time of the beast's mark, has a short 7 year period of rule.

During this 7 year period, the mark of the beast is unleashed upon the earth. Now scriptures talk about the mark of the beast in several passages in the book of Revelation, but I want to look at the mark of the beast, from the passage in Revelation 13:16-18.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Now we know that man was created on the sixth day of creation. The average height of a man is six feet. And it said that when you're buried, you're buried six feet under. All of these point to man and his fallen humanity. So whatever this mark is, it will bear resemblance to the sinful nature of man, and to the fall of man.

In fact, the beast is in fact, tied to the fall of man. So the rollout of this beast system will be a period when the sinful nature of man will be somewhat unleashed. And at this point, many biblical scholars (and I) believe that the church would have already been raptured at this point in human history. So there will be literally no restraining force on the earth to keep back of the sinful activity of man. And during this time, the Scripture says that the mark of the beast will be instated, so that people can neither buy or sell, meaning there will be no commerce, without this mark.

The worship or complete servitude that the beast wants to take unto himself is the worship that is really and truly supposed to be for God and God alone. So this is idolatry on every front. This is man and satanic worship on every front, and it is not of God.

The apostle John in the Book of Revelation gives us very clear clues and signposts when it comes to the mark of the beast. This mark, on the right hand or forehead, is said to be the means by which the beast causes both small and great rich and poor, to literally surrender in worship or service.

We know that the mark can be placed on the right hand or forehead. On the forehead for control of the mind and mental faculties. We get that. But why the right hand?

Why the right hand?

The right hand is used in God's Word as a symbol of authority. When you see God's right hand in reference in the scriptures, whether it be the Old Testament, or the New Testament, you will see that it talks about His authority. The Lord Jesus is said to be seated at the right hand of the Father, talking about the authority of the Father, and the power of the Father. So to place the mark in the right hand means that the authority of the man or the woman who takes it will be removed or will be transferred to the beast whose mark or name is in the right hand.

So in other words, just as in the Garden of Eden, when man lost his place, there is a reinvention of the loss of the place or authority of man here in Revelation 13, with regards to this mark. The Apostle John goes on and he says, that no man would be able to buy or sell. Now, this is one of the ways that people will bow to this Beast system and take this mark: because they need to survive, they want to survive, they want to be able to buy and sell and provide for their families. So a lot of people will take the mark of the beast because of the fear of losing their jobs, and the fear of dying of starvation.

And again, just as it was, in the book of Genesis with the eating of a fruit, or with the desires of the flesh to eat and acquire life, so too here we see a revamping of that concept with the desire of the flesh to eat, and survive, and do things that are not of the will of God, just to sustain itself.

The Significance is that the mark of the beast is also the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

So the scriptures say that the mark is the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Number and name go hand in hand together. Why? because the name of an individual from a Hebraic perspective is not just that individual's title or their identifying word, it is also reference to their nature, their essence, their character. Also, Hebrew letters also have associated numbers-(something to ponder). So this mark is to take on the nature, the character, the ways of the beast. So it is a transformative mark that is taken. I would venture to say, a metamorphosis.

This is why there is no salvation for those who take the mark- because you take on the identity of the beast when you take his name. And when you take on the identity of the beast in whom there is no truth, you can never come to the saving knowledge of the Truth found only in The Lord Jesus Christ. And with the beast's name or identity from taking the mark, a person with the mark will also receive the beast's punishment from the hand of Almighty God.

Revelation 14:9-11

9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.

But here is wisdom, scripture says in verse Revelation 13:18:

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore.

Six (6) is the number of man. And again that goes back to the creation order when God created man on the sixth day.

We know, from scripture, that God rested on the seventh day or sabbath day.

And we know that God created man on the 6th day. Now here's where it goes a bit deeper in terms of the revelation of where we are in bible history.

2 Peter 3:8

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

Are you ready for this revelation on the Significance of the Mark of the beast and this time period?

Many people believe that from the time of creation until now, has been around 6000 years. And so at the time of the mark of the beast, it is believed that man would have been on the earth for a period of 6000 years; 6000 years, meaning the sixth day, because 1000 years is as one day to the Lord. So the Sixth Day is the number of man. Which is why the final hurah for man (the old creation) will end with 666 or the mark of the beast.

But, this biblical saga will culminate with the seventh day, which is when we have the 1000 year or Millennial reign of Christ and His saints (new Creation) within the 7000 year tier. And then He and His saints shall reign forever and ever as the kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdom of the Lord and His Christ.

Revelation 22:3-5

3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

This will actually mark the end of the age of the old creation for the sun won't be the light and energy source anymore, but God Himself will. The old order would have passed away!

But let's recap what we covered about the mark of the beast system in terms of the chronology.

To recap: Each 1000 years period is a day and we can see that the parallel of the sixth day in creation is 6000 years of human history. At the end of this 6000 year period will be the time of the mark of the beast to bring this "day", to its ultimate close. But then, you will have the seventh day when Jesus in fact will reign for 1000 years or in that 7000 year (7th day) period.

So it is a full work of God here for these End Times.

A lot of people fear the End Times and the culmination of bible prophecy for the sole reason that they are not sure whether or not they have a secure relationship with Christ. And that's the most important thing: That you have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Ask The Lord to forgive you of your sins, repent of your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, confess Him with your mouth and you will in fact be saved.

Romans 10: 9-13

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Do Christians Have To Go Through The Mark of The Beast Time Period?

No, not if they live for and through The Lord. But, we'll get into more on this later.

There are many Bible verses that point to the end of the age in biblical prophecy. And in Bible prophecy, we have many different takes as to what will happen with believers (dead and alive). Whether there will be a pre-trib rapture, mid-trib rapture, or post-tribulation Rapture, not many people agree. But I want to submit to you that based on my reading and study of God's word, I believe that it is a pre-trib rapture because the Lord will keep us from the hour of testing. The Lord Jesus talked about praying that you would be accounted worthy to escape. Let me see if I can find that scripture here.

The Lord Jesus Christ said it like this: In the book of Revelation 3:10, Jesus says,

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

So we know that Jesus is going to keep us from that hour that's going to come upon the whole world, if we live for Him. And living for Him, truly comes by living through Him and by Him. He has to become your life.

The Mark of The Beast time period is not a time of testing or temptation that comes to a person as an individual; it's going to come upon the whole world. And we know that this is the time of the beast, when the wrath of God will be poured out upon the earth. Jesus also mentions keeping us from this period again during His earthly ministry in Luke 21 :36 when He says:

6 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

So here we see a basic biblical truth, where Jesus is, in fact, saying that you can escape these things. We see it from Luke 21, verse 36, and we also see it from Revelation 3. And one of the basic tenets of, of biblical understanding is that you base doctrine on two or three witnesses, and,of course, the understanding of the surrounding contexts. And that comes from Deuteronomy 19:15, Deuteronomy 17:6, and 2 Corinthians 13:1.

2 Corinthians 13:1-3

This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

2 I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:

3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.

So on the escaping the hour of testing topic, we see the Lord Jesus here both before His resurrection and ascension and after in glory, saying that you can pray and keep His Word to be counted worthy to escape!! (Luke 21:36, Rev. 3:10)

And how do you know whether or not you'd be counted worthy to escape that which will come upon the whole earth? Luke 21: 35 says pray, and Revelation 3:10 answers this question: Because you have kept the word of My perseverance I will also keep you from the hour of testing.

This goes hand in hand with John 8:31-32

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

You see in Revelation 3:10 and in John 8:3-32 Keeping His Word or Teachings liberates you or keeps you from the hour of testing, because you have been liberated and not grounded to this present world. In other words, when you're made free, you can be raptured, because the present world doesn't have you! You live by the leading of The Holy Spirit!

So the mark of the beast, and 666 are connected. They are in fact, one and the same; released during the time that the Lord calls the hour of testing.

Again, the Mark of the Beast or the number of his name, 666, are the same. The Scripture says, that this number or his name is 666. And it points to the Bible prophecy about the end times when the beast will seek to make both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond to receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads. And no man will be able to buy or sell or do any kind of business except the person who has received the mark.

It is our prayer that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you'd live a life worthy of the Lord and escape the trouble that is to come upon the whole world.
