What is The Spiritual Gift of Speaking in Tongues?
We know from the book of Acts that the gift of speaking in tongues is very powerful and dynamic.
It is a gift that allows the body of Christ to show forth the supernatural nature of our faith through the spoken word. However, when it comes to the gift of speaking in tongues, there are many different types. In the book of Acts, what we saw was the gift of tongues, where people could interpret their native tongue.
This Gift is Not Only Of Human Language
However, not all operations of the gift of the speaking of tongues involves human language. And how do we know this?
Because the Apostle Paul when referring to the gift of speaking in tongues, mentions in First Corinthians 13 that there's the gift of speaking in tongues of men, and then there's the gift in the tongues of angels.
And so this shows us that when you have the gift of speaking in tongues, it may not always be interpreted by a natural human language, it may be the tongues of angels and so you may not be speaking in Spanish or some other native tongue, but you may be speaking in terms of what angels can understand.
A lot of people miss this because we only saw that one operation of speaking in tongues there, but the Apostle Paul shares that there are other operations of speaking in tongues which involve speaking in the language of angels.

Scriptures also share that when you pray in the Spirit that you build up your most holy faith and become stronger or edify yourself.
Tongues is A Powerful Tool In Witnessing To The Lost
The gift of speaking in tongues is one of The Spirit's gifts, and it is very powerful in witnessing to the lost, because if someone's own native dialect is heard, and you have no understanding or recollection of that dialect, this can be a sign to the unbeliever that God is among you.
And if there's an interpretation of the tongues, it is very powerful even without the native speaker.
An interpretation can be given for tongues by the Holy Spirit, which again goes to the interpretation of tongues, another spiritual gift that may not be a direct translation, but it would be equivalent to prophecy, as Scripture says. So this this gift is very powerful and dynamic.
