Psalm Chapter 120 KJV
King James Version, Holy Bible
1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
Psalms Chapter 120 Devotional: THE FALSE TONGUE
Thought for the day: Keep your tongue under the control of the Holy Spirit.
Message:
One small but mighty part of the body is the tongue. A woman was killed in Nigeria recently because of the use of the tongue. Many times, your life depends on what you say per time and that is why you must be careful as children of God to use your tongue rightly to glorify God.
In our scripture reading, we discovered the havoc that a lying and deceptive tongue did in the life of the psalmist; he cried to God in that agony to save him. We see people these days that have dedicated their lives to telling lies against other people in order to put them in trouble.
This is not right!
This is against the will of God. The Lord gave us the tongue to profit withal and not to destroy lives.
Never allow the devil to use you against anyone. The curse is upon the lying and deceptive tongue. We have them everywhere: We have them in politics, we have them in the business world, and we have them in ministry. They use their tongue against anyone God is lifting just to bring them down. Their end is not always good so be careful of them. Let us look at The Scriptures:
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. James 3:5-14
If you are reading this today and you have used your tongue against anyone, God is calling you to forgiveness. Jesus loves you and He wants you to repent of your sin.
My Counsel
Ø Be mindful of whatever you say because your word is a seed.
Ø Let your heart dwell in the word of God. It will control your tongue to speak rightly.
Declaration
Father, I am sorry for whichever way I have failed to use my tongue rightly. Have mercy on me and help me Lord to dwell in your Word, in Jesus' Name.
